Same equipment, local clinic
Used at the top level
Hawkin force plates are used at the NFL Scouting Combine and the NBA Draft Combine. The NHL used the 1080 Sprint 2 at its 2026 Combine.
The Technology
Hawkin Dynamics force plates and 1080 Motion technology are used at the NFL, NBA and NHL combines and by professional, national and college teams. At iTOP, the same tools are part of care for every athlete we test.

Data-Driven. Athlete-Proven.
Top-level equipment and top-level care should not depend on a roster spot. We brought the testing used by professional and college programs into our clinics, so every athlete can use it.

Same equipment, local clinic
Hawkin force plates are used at the NFL Scouting Combine and the NBA Draft Combine. The NHL used the 1080 Sprint 2 at its 2026 Combine.
This is the same technology used by professional and college programs, and it is rarely found in a local physical therapy clinic.
High school, college, adult or lifelong athlete: if you are training for something, you test on the same equipment.
Who else uses it
Hawkin Dynamics
Lubbock & Colleyville
Two wireless plates you stand, jump and land on. Each plate measures the force under one foot about 1,000 times per second, so we see how each leg loads, pushes off and lands, not just how high you jumped.

1080 Motion
Lubbock
A motorized cable machine. Instead of weight plates, a motor sets the resistance and can control the speed of every rep. It can load you harder on the way down than on the way up, or hold a set speed while you push as hard as you can. The cable can be set horizontally, diagonally or vertically.

1080 Motion
Colleyville
A portable motorized unit with a line that clips to a belt or harness. It can resist you, like a sled with an exact load, or assist you slightly faster than you can run on your own. It times every split and records force and power.

Shoulder tests (scapular, rotator cuff and overhead press) are measured for each arm on the 1080 Quantum in Lubbock and the 1080 Sprint in Colleyville.
What's Different
Common clinic tests rely on a trained eye, a tape measure and a stopwatch. They have their place, and we still use clinical tests. Measured testing adds numbers for each side that we can compare from one visit to the next.
| Area | Common approach | At iTOP |
|---|---|---|
| Strength | Graded by feel during a manual muscle test | Force measured for each side on the 1080 or with a hand-held dynamometer |
| Jumping & landing | Jump height with a tape measure; landing judged by eye | Force under each foot about 1,000 times a second: loading, push-off and landing, left vs. right |
| Speed | Stopwatch started and stopped by hand | Every split timed by the 1080 Sprint, plus force and power |
| Progress | Compared from memory or notes | Retests about every 12 weeks against your own baseline, in a color-coded report |
| Return to sport | Often based mostly on time since injury | Based on criteria (strength, symmetry, movement), decided with your care team |

What the Research Says
Published studies on the tools and the tests. These findings come from specific groups of athletes and patients. They are not iTOP results and not a guarantee.
Force plates
When Hawkin plates were placed on top of in-ground laboratory force plates, the two systems agreed on every countermovement jump measure tested and on 16 of 18 drop jump measures. (Study co-funded by Hawkin Dynamics.)

1080 Sprint
In 17 elite female handball players, 1080 Sprint split times matched a reference timing system within 0.01 seconds (apart from a fixed offset over the first 5 m), and repeat sprints varied by only about 1 to 2%.

Recovery
A meta-analysis of 151 studies found countermovement jump measures can detect fatigue and the rebound after recovery, with average jump height more sensitive than a single best jump.

ACL
In a small study of elite ski racers about two years after ACL reconstruction, dual force plates showed larger left-right differences in jump push-off than in uninjured racers.

ACL
In 118 male athletes after ACL reconstruction and 44 controls, single-leg jump testing combined with isokinetic strength testing told the two groups apart with 89% accuracy.

Return to sport
In 106 patients in pivoting sports, 5.6% of those who passed return-to-sport criteria had a knee reinjury, compared with 38.2% of those who did not.

How It Fits Your Care
The technology is part of your plan from the first visit: a baseline at Assess, retests about every 12 weeks, and a color-coded report. Here is where each machine is.

FAQ
No. The force plates and 1080 equipment are used by professional and college programs, and at iTOP they are available to every athlete we test: high school, college, adult and lifelong athletes.
The force plates measure the force you put into the ground when you jump, land or pull. The 1080 Quantum and 1080 Sprint use a motor to set resistance or assistance and measure force, speed and power while you lift, press or sprint.
Hawkin Dynamics force plates are at Lubbock and Colleyville. The 1080 Quantum is in Lubbock and the 1080 Sprint is in Colleyville. Shoulder tests (scapular, rotator cuff and overhead press) are done on the Quantum in Lubbock and the Sprint in Colleyville.
Yes. Irving offers clinical return-to-play testing, including testing-only sessions. For force plate and 1080 testing, Irving refers athletes to Lubbock or Colleyville.
Tests are chosen for where you are in your recovery and progress as you do. Your clinician decides what is appropriate, and medical clearance stays with your physician.
