Force Plate & Return-to-Sport Testing

Test. Retest. See the difference.

Testing turns how you jump, land, lift, and sprint into numbers. We retest you against your own baseline, and at Lubbock and Colleyville every athlete we test gets a color-coded report. For anyone training for something, at any age.

What Testing Is

Data-Driven. Athlete-Proven.

Testing is a short set of jump, strength, and speed tests. It measures what the eye can't see: how much force you produce, how fast you produce it, and whether one side is doing more of the work.

Objective testing

Force plates, 1080 equipment, and clinical tests record real numbers (force, power, speed, and left vs. right), not a guess or a feeling.

Retested against your own baseline

Your first test sets your baseline. Every retest compares you with you, so you can see what has improved and what still needs work.

A report you can read

Every athlete tested at Lubbock and Colleyville gets a short report: a green, yellow, or red status for each area, your numbers side by side, and what happens next.

Testing is run by our licensed, degreed clinicians, physical therapists and athletic trainers who treat all types of injuries. Technology adds detail; your clinician chooses which tests fit you, and when.

Your Test Session

What happens in your test

  1. Warm up

Bike intervals and dynamic drills, so you're ready to move at full effort.

  2. Practice

Your clinician demonstrates each test, and you get practice tries first.

  3. Test each side

If one side is injured, the healthy side goes first to set the reference. Three tries per test, per side.

  4. Review your results

Your clinician walks you through your numbers, what they mean, and the next step.

Wear comfortable clothes you can move in. Your clinician selects the tests; not every athlete does every test.

What We Measure

Jumps, strength, symmetry, and speed.

Your clinician picks the tests that fit your goal or injury. Most fall into four groups.

Depending on your goal, testing can also include balance (the Y-Balance Test), hop tests (single, triple, and lateral hops), range of motion, and your clinician's check of how you move and land.

  1. Jumps & landings

Countermovement jumps, repeated rebound jumps, single-leg jumps, and drop jumps on the force plates. We see how high you jump, how quickly you take off, how you absorb the landing, and how much each leg contributes.

  2. Strength

How much force each leg or arm produces: knee extension and flexion, single-leg squat, lunges, and hip tests on the 1080 Quantum; shoulder tests (scapular, rotator cuff, and overhead press) on the 1080 Quantum or the 1080 Sprint; plus clinical strength tests with a hand-held dynamometer.

  3. Left vs. right

When one side is injured, we test the healthy side first to set the reference, then show the other side as a percentage of it. On strength and hop tests the goal is 90% or better, and 95% for pivoting and cutting sports.

    Part of every test

  4. Speed & power

How fast you produce force. The 1080 Sprint measures speed, force, and power on resisted and assisted sprints, and the 1080 Quantum records your power on every rep.

What You Get

A report you can read.

Every athlete we test at Lubbock and Colleyville gets this color-coded report, not just patients sent by a physician. With your permission, we share it with your physician, coach, or athletic trainer, so everyone works from the same numbers.

The iTOP Path

Baseline first. Then retest.

Testing runs through all three packages: Assess, Recover, and Perform. Most athletes retest about every 12 weeks. You move forward when you pass the test, not when the calendar says so.

There are no guaranteed timelines. Return-to-sport decisions are made with your care team, and medical clearance stays with your physician.

  1. Assess

    Set your baseline

Your evaluation, before any treatment. At Lubbock and Colleyville, force plate and 1080 testing add a baseline in numbers.

  2. Recover

    Retest before each step

Retests, about every 12 weeks, show whether the gap is closing. After surgery, testing follows your surgeon's protocol; after ACL reconstruction, checkpoints are typically around 3, 6, and 9 months.

  3. Recover

    Test before you return

A full return-to-play test before you go back to full play or racing. No single test clears you.

  4. Perform

    Keep building

Back, or healthy and training? Retests about every 12 weeks, against your own numbers, show what your training is building.

At Lubbock and Colleyville it includes force plate and 1080 testing, and you leave with your numbers and your color-coded report. At Irving it's clinical return-to-play testing, and your clinician walks you through your results.

FAQ

Testing Questions

You stand, jump, and land on two Hawkin Dynamics force plates, one under each foot. They measure the force each leg puts into the ground, so we can see how high you jump, how quickly you take off, how you absorb a landing, and whether one leg is doing more of the work. Force plate testing is at our Lubbock and Colleyville clinics.

A set of tests that shows whether you're ready to go back to full play after an injury or surgery: strength, power, balance, jumps and hops, and how you move, with each side compared. No single test clears you, and medical clearance stays with your physician.

No. Testing is for anyone training for something: youth, high school, and collegiate athletes; adult and recreational athletes; HYROX and hybrid athletes; runners; and lifelong athletes. It's also for anyone with a fresh injury or coming back from surgery. Healthy athletes test to set a baseline and track progress.

A warm-up, practice tries, then each test on both sides, three tries each. Your clinician then walks you through your results. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in.

Every athlete tested on the force plates and 1080 at Lubbock and Colleyville gets a color-coded report: a green, yellow, or red status for each area, your numbers for each side, a plain-language summary, and the plan with your retest date. At Irving, your clinician walks you through your clinical return-to-play results. With your permission, we share results with your physician, coach, or athletic trainer.

Most athletes retest about every 12 weeks, in rehab and in Perform. After ACL reconstruction, checkpoints are typically around 3, 6, and 9 months, always inside your surgeon's protocol. Your clinician sets your retest date.
